

Barbara J. Ross, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at UW Hospital. She was born on Aug. 30, 1943, in Dodgeville, the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Wienkers) Esser.
Barbara graduated from Wisconsin School of the Deaf, Delavan, in 1964. She was united in marriage to Dennis Ross Dec. 3, 1977, in Madison. She was a proud member of the Wisconsin Deaf Campers, Madison Association of the Deaf, Red Hat Society, and a longtime faithful member of St. Dennis Catholic Church
Barb was spicy and had a beautiful sense of humor. She always put a smile on everyone’s face and had a passion for teaching others how to sign. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed drawing, sewing and watching Hallmark movies. She loved spending time with her family and friends and especially being with her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Beth (Jason) Kowing and Jill (Sebastian) Mion; three grandchildren, Hailey Kowing, Marissa Kowing and Rocco Mion; brother, William (Nancy) Esser; and special nieces, Tammy and Jodi. She was preceded in death by husband, Dennis; and parents, Robert and Elizabeth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
