Susan Marie Nelmark, age 64 of Ashland, WI, passed away peacefully with her loving siblings by her side on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN. Susan was born on January 23, 1959 in Ashland, WI, the daughter of Richard William and June Anna (Mattson) Nelmark.
Susan started school at John Muir in Wausau and lived with the Brandeburg Family. Then she went to the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan, WI and graduated in 1978. She worked at the Look Up Workshop in Hurley, WI, and also volunteered at the Ashland Senior Center. She was a member of the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church in Marengo, WI. She loved camping around the countryside with her mother and was a designated driver. She enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers & Wisconsin Badgers (never missed a game) and keeping all the scores in a book. She loved her 2 service dogs, Hero & Kitty and enjoyed socializig with her deaf friends.
Susan is survived by her four siblings and their families: Vickie Nelmark, Gary (Julie) Nelmark, Donna (Bob) Johnson, and Mary Otto. Her nieces and nephews are: Richard (Lynda) Windt and daughter Jenna; Natalie (Todd) Sarazin & children Evan and Alex; Nate (Beth) Nelmark and children Penley and Lincoln; Nick (Amanda) Nelmark and daughter Penelope; Jamie Johnson and children Jalen & Jared Taylor; Michelle Johnson and children Deylin, Kaylee, Abby, and Harper; Jeremiah (Tiani) Johnson and children Cade, Katalina, and Kayzel; Denny Otto Jr and his daughter Latisha; Cory Otto and his daughter, Ariyah; Derrick (Alena) Otto. She is further survived by a very special friend Ken Shipley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, special friend Leonard Aiken, brother-in-law Dennis Otto, and her service dogs Hero and Kitty.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church in Marengo, WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Highbridge, WI.
