Class of 1959

Diana L. (Simon) Scherer, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 23, 2025. Diana was born on November 2, 1937, the 10th of 11 children, to John and Emma (Schmitt) Simon.

Diana grew up in the small community of Springfield Corners, just outside of Madison. The Simon family business included a baseball diamond, where she spent many happy hours playing baseball, especially with her sister, Judy, and their nephews. It’s no coincidence she became a lifelong fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, along with the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Diana was a graduate of Wisconsin School for the Deaf where she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Scherer Jr. They were married on June 18, 1960, and have been inseparable ever since.  Diana enjoyed raising their three daughters and working alongside her husband at his family business, Bill’s Key Shop, until their retirement in 2016.

Diana and Bill ran a popular orange juice stand at Madison events for many decades. Diana also loved traveling with her family and time in the sun. Taking many trips to Mexico, the Caribbean and yearly trips to Door County. After grandchildren came along, she loved spending time with them, while supporting them at their school and sporting events. Diana was an avid bowler and card player, especially euchre. She always insisted on playing by the “Simon Rules.”

Diana was a longtime member of St. Dennis Catholic Church and the Madison Association of the Deaf.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; daughters, Mary Lynn Rose, Darla Mae Niemuth and Paulette Dupor; grandchildren, Heather (Alex) Psota, Ashley (Tim) Shelton, Michael Dupor, Adam (Lexi) Dupor and Emma Dupor; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Olivia, Bradley, Bailey and William; sisters, Elaine Busch and Judella (Paul) Olson; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
