Shirley Louise (Miller) Mingo
Class of 1956

Shirley Louise (Miller) Mingo, 89, of Muscatine, IA, went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2024.

Shirley was born on April 19, 1935, to Clarence and Rachel Ellis Miller in Monroe, Wisconsin. Shirley graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in 1956, and married the love of her life, Dale Mingo in 1957. They lived many cherished years in Pleasant Valley, IA, where they raised their five children. A devoted stay-at-home mother, Shirley dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a loving home for her children. Shirley and Dale were happily married for nearly 46 years until his passing in 2003.

Nicknamed “Sunshine” by her parents, Shirley had a beautiful smile and a sweet, friendly personality. She was a long-time charter member of the Crossroads Independent Baptist Church. She had a deep appreciation of nature and had fond memories growing up on a dairy farm, decorating her home with pictures of cows. She also loved going for long walks, bird watching, and was a fan of old movies. But most of all, she had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her five children: Albert (Linda) Mingo, Kathy (Patrick) O’Brien, Lori Mingo, Kim (Barry) Barron, and Rachel (Dustin) Mingo; six grandchildren: Abraham (Maddie) Mingo, Nicholas and Dexter Barron, Daisy, Selina and Arzella Warren; and two brothers: Keith (Margaret) Miller and Gerald (Joan) Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Miller; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Mingo.

A private family burial will be held, with a public memorial service to be announced at a later date. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Independent Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
